Real Return

 Printable Version

Investment Objective
Harbor Real Return Fund seeks maximum real return, consistent with preservation of real capital.

Visit the Investment Philosophy for more details.

Suitability
Harbor Real Return Fund may be suitable for investors with the aim to better protect their purchasing power against the effects of inflation.

Risk Implications
Because the Fund is non-diversified and may invest a greater percentage of its assets in securities of a single issuer and in a relatively small number of issuers it is more susceptible to risks associated with a single economic, political or regulatory occurrence than a more diversified portfolio. Some of those issuers may also present substantial credit or other risks.

For a more detailed description of risks associated with investing in this Fund, see the prospectus.

Investment Adviser
Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc., a registered investment adviser, is the Fund's investment adviser. Pacific Investment Management Company LLC,a registered investment adviser, has been the Fund's subadviser since its inception in 2005. Mihir Worah has managed the Fund since 2007.

Distribution and Tax Information
The Fund will distribute all or substantially all of its net investment income and realized capital gains, if any, each year. The Fund declares and pays any dividends from net investment income quarterly. The Fund distributes any capital gains annually in December. The Fund may also pay dividends and capital gain distributions at other times if necessary to avoid federal income or excise tax. Periodic adjustments for inflation to the principal amount of an inflation-indexed bond may give rise to original issue discount, which will be includable in the Fund's gross income. As a result, the fund may be required to make annual distributions to shareholders that exceed the cash received, which may cause the fund to liquidate certain investments when it is not advantageous to do so. Also, if the principal value of an inflation-indexed bond is adjusted downward due to deflation, amounts previously distributed in the taxable year may be characterized in some circumstances as a return of capital.
